New Shopping in the Potteries

This was a joint project and exhibition with photographer Jonathan Reed in association with The Potteries Museum & Art Gallery in 1990. It consisted of large format location based portraits in the Potteries shopping Centre, Hanley, Stoke on Trent. The portraits looked at the juxtaposition of the person (gender, style, age, economic background etc) and what they were shopping for in the centre – all were unprompted. The project consisted of 45 portraits of which a selection are displayed here – the photographs are now stored in the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery social history archive.
